BBC News: Winter wave of coronavirus ‘could be worse than first’: speed, accuracy and scale of testing to create green zones should help avoid this

BBC News – Winter wave of coronavirus ‘could be worse than first’

Rapid testing and safe zones in hospitals and care homes are some of the measures pointed to in order to avoid a large scale death toll this winter.

The TravelSafe iWarrant platform combined with the Icgene LAMP system could form a significant part of the answer to contain the virus. The Icgene LAMP test is the first of a new generation of rapid bio-molecular test to gain a CE-IVD mark in the world. It is fully compliant with all EU performance, safety, health and and environmental requirements. Test results automatically update the iWarrant application which provides a QR code status enabling safe entry into areas or facilities.

The ability to get on the spot results within 40 minutes and automatically update iWarrant can transform the current issues of track and trace capacity and help create green zones for hospitals, care homes and factories. Mobile rapid response teams can be created to get a true picture of an outbreak and contain its spread and create safe “green zones”.

Lock down, test and trace has proven to be the most effective approach as demonstrated in countries like Taiwan and Korea. Let’s hope that the UK and other governments embrace this new solution quickly and ramp up to contain any second major wave this winter.
